Biotin - vitamin H for healthy hair and nails. The importance of biotin for health and beauty.

 Biotin (vitamin B7, vitamin H) is a water-soluble B vitamin that affects our energy levels, as well as the condition of hair, skin and nails. It acts as a catalyst for enzymes responsible for the breakdown of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. It also affects the work of the nervous system, pancreas, thyroid and adrenal glands. Find out why its shortage should not be allowed!

It acts as a catalyst for enzymes responsible for the breakdown of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. It also affects the work of the nervous system, pancreas, thyroid, and adrenal glands. Find out why its shortage should not be allowed!

Experts emphasize that vitamin B7 (also called biotin or vitamin H) stimulates hair growth and protects against hair loss. Biotin deficiency can lead to thinning strands, which is why proponents argue that the right supplements can thicken the hair. If you've noticed that your manicure weakens your nail plate, consider supplementing with vitamin H.

Manufacturers claim that shampoos, conditioners, hair oils, masks and creams containing biotin can thicken the strands, increase their volume and add shine. However, remember not to overdo supplementation. Otherwise, side effects such as skin rash, digestive disorders, kidney problems and abnormal insulin release may occur. Consult your doctor to determine the appropriate dose.

Along with other B vitamins, biotin supports cognition and the nervous system by stimulating neurons in the brain. Biotin improves the condition and appearance of the hair, strengthening the hair follicles. Thanks to it, you can enjoy strong, thick and springy strands. It also supports the health of the skin and nails by providing essential nutrients that soothe brittleness, dullness and dryness. Stronger hair is less likely to break at the ends, in addition, it will not be harmed by unfavorable external factors. You don't have to worry that dyeing, straightening or curling will weaken the strands. In addition, vitamin H stimulates the production of the myelin sheath, which protects the nerves and supports cognitive functions and the activity of neurotransmitters.

Biotin helps in the metabolism of fatty acids, glucose and amino acids. In other words, it helps your body process the fats and sugars that you need to stay healthy. It also plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression and cell signaling (a process that coordinates the actions of all cells).

Biotin is found in many foods, such as meat, eggs, fish, nuts and dairy, so deficiency is rare. However, if it occurs, it will negatively affect your health, skin and nails. The body does not accumulate vitamin H, so it should be supplied in adequate amounts every day to avoid disorders of metabolism and gene regulation. The daily requirement of biotin in adults is 30 micrograms from all sources including diet and supplements. It is recommended that children and adolescents consume 5-25 micrograms a day, and that nursing women - 35 mcg.

The main symptoms of vitamin H deficiency include hair loss, rash, conjunctivitis, and scaly skin on the face and genitals. It can also be indicated by numbness and tingling fingers, fatigue, depression and confusion. Long-term or repeated biotin deficiency can also weaken the immune system as well as increase the risk of bacterial and fungal infections.

Most people can get enough vitamin B7 by eating a healthy, balanced diet. On the other hand, some medications, such as antibiotics, or gastrointestinal diseases, including colitis, can make it difficult for the body to absorb essential nutrients. It is worth considering biotin supplementation then. However, be sure to consult your doctor beforehand.

Biotin, also known as vitamins H and B7, is often called the beauty vitamin. It is much more important for our health than you might think. In addition to the fact that it affects the condition of the skin, hair and nails, biotin is also responsible for the metabolic processes in the body. It is involved in the digestion of carbohydrates and fats. Biotin is produced in the digestive tract, more specifically in the large intestine. This is where the absorption of biotin from food takes place.

In the following text, we will present the impact of biotin on health and indicate the most common symptoms that may be a sign of its deficiency.

Before we go on to describe the deficiencies themselves, it is worth mentioning in a few words what this biotin is.

Biotin plays an extremely important role in the body. Vitamin H is one of those essential for maintaining good health. In short, biotin is an essential water-soluble vitamin for the body. It is essential for the proper development and functioning of the entire body. Vitamin B7 influences, among others on the nervous system, bone marrow, thyroid gland and the appearance of the skin, which best shows that its deficiencies can affect various spheres of life. It is found in both animal and plant products. Unfortunately, the biotin content in food is relatively low.

Despite the fact that large biotin deficiencies are relatively rare, it is worth observing your body, especially the external appearance of the body, because it is mainly here that you can see its deficiencies.

The most common symptoms of biotin depend on:

  • excessive hair loss;
  • dandruff or seborrhea;
  • peeling of the skin, irritation, dryness, up to various types of inflammation;
  • split nails;
  • problems with concentration;
  • somnolence;
  • muscle aches;
  • increase in cholesterol;
  • nausea;
  • lack of appetite.

It is assumed that in a generally healthy person with a proper diet, there should be no problems with large biotin deficiencies. Exceptions are people who suffer from digestive problems or insulin resistance.

If we notice the presence of several of the above-mentioned symptoms, it is worth considering whether the reason for them was not the insufficient amount of biotin in the daily diet.

It's no secret that it is mainly women who care about the condition of their hair. Unfortunately, the pace of life, weather conditions or stress make it difficult to take care of the condition of the skin and nails. Their appearance is also adversely affected by cigarettes and alcohol, which flush biotin out of the body. Especially pregnant women and people after long antibiotic therapy should think about support from the inside, i.e. by taking various preparations. As you can see, there are many factors that can influence hair loss and we can do a lot to change it.

As soon as we notice the symptoms described above, it is not worth waiting. The first step may, and should be, to maintain a balanced diet. A diet rich in vitamin H products should help. If, however, the change in diet alone did not manage to affect the condition of the nails, and the muscle pain persists, we must reach for additional tools.

We can supply biotin to the body along with food, for example by eating walnuts, almonds, bran, tomatoes, carrots, spinach, cauliflower, bananas, and grapes. Egg yolk is also a great source of it. On the other hand, the way of preparing meals influences the absorption of biotin. It is not subject to strong thermal treatment. In order to make up for the shortage of biotin in a short time, we would have to eat a lot of products with a high content of vitamin H.

As with other preparations, also in the case of those containing biotin, the recommended dose should not be exceeded. Let's not forget that even the best dietary supplement is not a substitute for a varied diet, so it cannot replace healthy meals under any circumstances. Excess biotin, if it appears in the body, is not a cause for concern as it is excreted in the urine.

Biotin can also be found in herbal preparations enriched with, among others, o silicon obtained from the herb horsetail, which are available in pharmacies. Which one should you choose? It is difficult to answer this question unequivocally. It is worth relying on the help of the pharmacy in choosing the best preparation.

Biotin can also be found in special series of cosmetics, especially those for hair. All you need to do is enter the phrase biotin for hair when looking for information on this subject, and our eyes will see a long list of recommended specifics. Their regular use gives results after only a few weeks. All because of the beneficial effect on the scalp, especially the work of the glands.

To sum up, if we want to enjoy a healthy look, have healthy hair and radiant skin, biotin is a vitamin that our body cannot lack! Its deficiency also accelerates the aging processes, and these, as you know, can be slowed down by appropriate actions.

We hope that the above text has provided valuable information so that everyone will be able to look after themselves better than before, or at least associate some facts based on changes in their appearance.

Governments appeal to their citizens to leave the territory of Ukraine

 Over the past few days, more than ten countries have issued recommendations to their citizens to evacuate from the territory of Ukraine. Among them were Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Serbia, China, Kazakhstan, Egypt, and the United States and Bulgaria. India, on the other hand, recommends avoiding travel to and within this country.

As you can imagine, such steps were taken due to the threat of escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. The governments of several of these countries have decided to warn their citizens against the threat to their security resulting from staying in this country immediately after rocket attacks on Ukrainian cities, which the Russian side carried out in response to the explosion that destroyed a fragment of the Crimean Bridge exactly on the 70th birthday of the Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The US Embassy in Kyiv issued a recommendation to leave Ukraine on October 10, the day of Russian retaliation for damage to the Crimean Bridge. The statement reads:

 "Russia has launched attacks against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure as well as government facilities in Kiev and elsewhere. Russia's continued attacks in Ukraine pose a direct threat to the civilian population and civil infrastructure. The US Embassy is urging US citizens to take refuge on the ground and leave Ukraine now while it is still safe, using private ground transportation."

The Uzbek embassy in Kiev also, shortly after the missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and the Ukrainian economic infrastructure, issued an order that the citizens of that country refrain from traveling to Ukraine and those who are there leave for their own safety. The content of the statement reads:

 "In connection with the appeal of the citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding the security of entry and stay on the territory of Ukraine, in the context of increased missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, the Embassy again urges Poles to refrain from traveling to Ukraine until the end of the conflict. Moreover, in view of the escalation of the situation on the fronts and the high probability of continuation of rocket and artillery strikes throughout Ukraine, we are asking our countrymen to leave the country for their personal safety."

On 10 October, the Kazakh embassy in Kiev also called for its citizens to leave Ukraine. In their statement on the Telegram channel, they wrote:

" In connection with the intensification of attacks on civil infrastructure and state facilities throughout Ukraine, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan calls on its citizens to refrain from traveling to Ukraine, and people in this country not to disregard anti-aircraft alarms and remain in hideouts and air raid shelters. [...] The embassy calls on the citizens of Kazakhstan to leave the territory of Ukraine as much as possible."

The Chinese decided to warn their citizens against the threat of an escalation of the conflict also on October 10. At that time, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Kiev advised citizens of their country not to go to this country and reminded those who are already there to take refuge in safe places. She also called for leaving Ukraine as soon as conditions are favorable. In the statement of 10/10/2022, we read:

 "For some time now, our fellow citizens have become less cautious in responding to sirens warning against air attacks. However, given the heavy attacks going on at the moment, please make sure they enter the shelters at the first siren sounds and carry rainfall supplies with them. Again, please do not stay in the country unless it is urgent and necessary and leave the country as soon as it is safe to do so."

On Saturday, October 15, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China again called on Chinese citizens to strengthen their precautionary measures and evacuate the country.

Cui Heng from the Center for Russian Studies at East China Normal University, explaining the precautionary measures taken on Sunday, October 16, said that "after the attack on the Crimean Bridge, civil infrastructure became the target of an armed conflict, which is a clear escalation on the battlefield," and the evacuation of Chinese citizens is "an early a warning taken […] to avoid damage to the property and lives of Chinese citizens ”.

On Friday, October 14, the Egyptian embassy in Kiev called for evacuation from Ukraine. As reported by the Egyptian website "Sada El Balad":

 The Egyptian Embassy in Kiev on Friday asked all Egyptians to leave Ukraine as soon as possible via safe roads, in the west of Ukraine, in connection with the recent war events in that country. The embassy called on the Egyptians to avoid all dangerous regions and be careful when traveling on the roads.

Serbia temporarily closed its embassy in Kiev on Sunday, October 16. In a statement on that day, it was stated:

 "The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Ukraine has been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of personnel who will continue to work from Belgrade until the conditions for return to Ukraine are met."

It also added that on February 13 a recommendation was issued for Serb citizens to leave the territory of Ukraine:

" The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia reminds all interested parties that on February 13 it issued a recommendation to citizens of the Republic of Serbia staying in Ukraine to consider the possibility of temporarily leaving the territory of the country, and all those who planned to travel to Ukraine were advised to postpone their departure."

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Kiev, in turn, posted an appeal on its website that reads:

 ATTENTION TURKMENISTAN CITIZENS! The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine appeals to all Turkmen citizens currently staying in Ukraine or planning to come to Ukraine from abroad due to the ongoing military situation in Ukraine, as well as the threat of missile attacks throughout the country! To ensure the personal safety of citizens, the Embassy calls on Turkmen citizens to leave Ukraine through neighboring countries and to refrain from coming to Ukraine until martial law is lifted.

On October 11, the Tajik embassy appealed on its Facebook profile:

 "Attention Tajik citizens! In view of the increased attacks on critical infrastructure throughout Ukraine and threats to personal security, the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ukraine is asking the citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan to refrain from traveling to Ukraine until the situation has stabilized. Citizens currently residing in Ukraine are advised to strictly follow the rules of martial law and the instructions of local authorities regarding personal security, and to leave the territory of Ukraine if possible."

The Indian embassy in Kiev also issued a serious warning to its citizens in connection with the escalation of the war in Ukraine. We read in it:

 "Due to the current escalation of hostilities in Ukraine, Indian citizens are advised to avoid all irrelevant travel to and within Ukraine. They must strictly follow the safety and security guidelines issued by the Ukrainian government and local authorities. Indian citizens are asked to inform the embassy of the status of their presence in Ukraine to enable the embassy to reach them if necessary."

As the Wirtualna Polska website notes, however, referring to the unreliable former commander of the Polish Land Forces, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, these countries, pressing on their citizens to evacuate from Ukraine, are guided by fears of an escalation of the war by introducing nuclear weapons into the conflict. The former head of the National Security Bureau, General Koziej, believes in a similar way, which in turn specifically explains the evacuation of the Chinese from Ukraine by the fear of using nuclear weapons.

The use of nuclear weapons, however, is only one of several hypotheses as to what the governments of these countries were guided by when they suggested to their citizens that they should leave the territory of Ukraine. Another possible reason was the fear of an attack on Ukraine from the north by Russian troops or the combined forces of Russia and Belarus.

In addition to these more sinister hypotheses, there is also a much more moderate possibility, namely that these countries recommended their citizens to evacuate simply for the reasons stated in the statements, namely that the Russians attacked Ukrainian cities in retaliation for the destruction of the Crimean Bridge and the fear of continuing these activities, i.e. the danger of losing their health or life caused the cautious reaction of the governments of these dozen countries.

However, ignoring the reason for the above-mentioned countries to evacuate their citizens from Ukraine, there is no doubt that we are dealing with an exacerbation of the conflict, and as Ukrainian progresses on the North-Eastern front of the war, the likelihood of both opening a new front from Belarus and the use of weapons increases. nuclear. As reported in his Sunday text in the Wall Street Journal, Putin began to transfer both the Russian land forces and the air force to Belarus. Since Alexander Lukashenka already in February allowed the Russians to attack Ukraine from the Belarusian side, it is possible that this time Moscow also wants to tie up Ukrainian troops in the north in order to distract them from the country's territory in the North-East, where Kyiv's troops are clearly successful.

The American service notes that the Belarusian leader is trying his best to stand up to the Russian side, however, Moscow's pressure is growing, considering that the Russians have helped Belarusians in recent years when Belarus was driven into the vortex of the revolution and during the border conflict with Poland for a year later, Minsk may owe the Russians a favor. This favor may be the participation of Belarusian troops in the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

If there is an aggression on the Ukrainian state from the north, we can conclude with a high degree of probability that these actions will extend the armed conflict for another month and the predictions of Kyryło Budanov, the head of intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, that the Ukrainian-Russian war ended with Kiev's victory in the spring of 2023, they will certainly not work.

A strong gamma-ray burst swept through the Earth

 Gamma-ray bursts are one of the most impressive phenomena in the galaxy since the Big Bang, and the most powerful of them astronomers spotted last weekend. A beam of high-energy radiation that was 18 times stronger than the existing record passed over Earth last Sunday.

The signal, designated GRB 221009A, was recorded on October 9 by the Chinese LHAASO Observatory, although the explosion that caused it occurred 1.9 billion years ago. The gamma-ray burst originated in the direction of the constellation Arrows and was visible for more than ten hours, making it one of the longest of its kind in the history of their observations.

This is not the only weirdness. GRB 221009A was found to emit the highest energy detected. The energy of these bursts is usually measured in gigaelectron volts (GeV), but some have been recorded at energies around 1 teraelectron volts (TeV). The new gamma ray burst hits a record 18 TeV!

The most interesting thing is that this powerful eruption flew incredibly close to Earth and that is why it was so long and clearly visible. Astronomers observing the event said it could take decades before another such bright flare was detected.

While it's still unclear what exactly caused this gamma-ray burst, the prime suspect is a massive star that collapses into a black hole at the end of its life. This process shoots powerful jets of particles into space, as well as X-rays and gamma rays.

It is worth noting that despite its intensity and proximity, a gamma ray burst is harmless to the Earth. It is believed that if one of them explodes in our Milky Way, it could cause mass extinction. Fortunately, gamma-ray bursts are considered relatively rare events, and the likelihood of direct gamma rays hitting the Earth is negligible.

The discovery of the skull of the "Dragon Man" in China could rewrite the history of human evolution

 Chinese scientists have discovered an ancient skull that may belong to a completely new human species. The research team says it is our closest evolutionary relative among the known species of ancient humans such as Neanderthals and Homo erectus. The specimen, called the "Dragon Man", represents a group of people who lived in East Asia at least 146,000 years ago. It was found in Harbin, Northeast China, in 1933, but has only recently attracted the attention of scientists.

The skull analysis was published in The Innovation magazine. One of the UK's leading experts on human evolution, Professor Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum in London, was a member of the research team. When it comes to fossils from the last million years, it is one of the most important finds.

We have a separate branch of humanity that is not on the way to becoming Homo sapiens (our species), but is a separate line that has developed in this region over several hundred thousand years and eventually died out. Scientists say this discovery could rewrite the history of human evolution. Their analysis shows that it is more closely related to Homo sapiens than to Neanderthals. They assigned the specimen to a new species: Homo longi, from the Chinese word "long" meaning dragon.

We discovered our long-lost line. The skull is huge compared to the average skulls of other human species. His brain was comparable in size to that of our species. The dragoman had large, nearly square eye sockets, thick eyebrow arches, a wide mouth, and huge teeth. Professor Qiang Ji of Hebei GEO University says it is one of the most complete fossils of early human skulls ever discovered.

It combines primitive and more modern features in a mosaic, which makes it different from all other human species. Scientists believe that the dragon man was extremely complex and strong. But little is known about how he lived as his skull was removed from where it was found. This means that there is currently no archaeological context such as stone tools or other cultural elements.

According to reports, the skull was discovered in 1933 by a builder who helped build a bridge over the Songhua River that flows through Harbin in Heilongjiang Province, which means "Black Dragon River," hence the name of the new man. At that time, the city was under Japanese occupation. Suspecting its cultural value, a Chinese worker smuggled it home to prevent it from falling into the hands of the occupiers. He hid it at the bottom of his family well, where he lay for about 80 years. Before his death, the man told his family about the skull and so it ended up in the hands of scientists.

Dragon Man joins many early human remains found in China that proved difficult to classify. These include the remains from Dali, Jinnyushan, Hualundong, and Xiahe's jaw from the Tibetan Plateau. There is a heated debate as to whether these remains represent primitive specimens of Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, a group of people known as Denisovans, or something else entirely. Denisations were first identified from DNA extracted from 50,000-30,000 years old finger bones found in Denisov's Cave in Russia. Because the remains of this Neanderthal-related lineage were so fragmented, this group was dubbed the "fossil-seeking genome."

Professor Martha Mirazon Lahr of the University of Cambridge believes that the Dragon Man was a Denisovan. The Denisovans are an amazing, enigmatic population from the past. There is speculation (based on DNA evidence) that the jaw found in the Tibetan Plateau may be a Denisovian, she said. "And now, since the Tibetan jaw and the dragon-man are alike, now we can have the first Denisovan face." And the group that revealed details of Israeli remains belonging to a possible Neanderthal predecessor believes the Dragon Man may be a descendant of humans who first appeared in the Levant region.

But Chinese scientists say the difficult-to-classify East Asian fossils represent the gradual evolution of a new species. Professor Nee kindly replies to those who disagree with this assessment. "The results obtained will cause a lot of controversies and I'm sure many people will disagree with us," he said. "But it's science, and that's because we disagree, science is progressing."

The legendary "mythical monsters" that turned out to be real - the gorilla and the platypus

 This may surprise people who believe in scientists, but until 1847 science considered the common gorilla a fiction and a "myth."

The term "gorilla" comes from a Carthaginian explorer named Hanno the Sailor who explored the African coast in 500 BC. He described how he encountered a tribe of "gorillas", monstrous and cruel creatures similar to humans.

Reports of monstrous hairy people attacking and taking over villages dragged on for centuries, but scientists never took them seriously. In the 16th century, an English explorer described the ape-like people he saw sitting around a fire at night.

Gorillas remained "myth" and "fiction" until 1847 when Thomas Savage found gorilla bones in Liberia. Then, with the help of Harvard anatomist Jeffreys Wyman, he published an official description of the species, calling it a gorilla.

But even after that, science refused to recognize the existence of gorillas. They were officially recognized as a species only in 1902, when German captain Robert von Behringe shot one of them in the Virunga region of Rwanda and took him home to Europe.

Only then did scientists admit that gorillas really existed.

The platypus is a strange animal that seems to break many rules. At the time of its first discovery by Europeans, it seemed to contradict everything they thought they knew about mammals.

The platypus is a fluffy Australian mammal that lives in rivers. It has otter legs and a beaver tail. It's not that strange so far. Then you look at the head and it looks like it has a duck's beak, something that hasn't been seen in any other mammal.

Even stranger is the fact that it lays eggs. Only five modern mammal species do this: platypus and four species of spike (anteater). Until the discovery of the platypus, it was well known that one of the defining characteristics of a mammal was the birth of live offspring.

Besides, the platypus is poisonous! Almost nothing was known about poisonous mammals. The male platypus produces venom from glands attached to the spurs of the ankle. They are believed to serve as protection against other males, especially during the mating season. No wonder then that European naturalists of the 18th and 19th centuries regarded the platypus as a hoax. When the first platypus corpse arrived in Europe from Australia, scientists did not know what to do with it.

They thought it was the work of the Chinese sailors. Platypus carcasses were believed to be simply well-assembled fakes of other animals! It took zoologists almost a century to admit their mistake and finally confirm the existence of the platypus.

Social pressure - How much do you allow yourself to be manipulated?

 Social pressure occurs when certain patterns relating to the way they are, behave or express their thoughts are imposed on individuals belonging to a given society. These are norms, patterns, and attitudes that result from the habits, trends, or prevailing fashion that prevail in society

Social pressure occurs when certain patterns relating to the way they are, behave or express their thoughts are imposed on individuals belonging to a given society. These are norms, patterns, and attitudes that result from the habits, trends, or prevailing fashion that prevail in a given society. Each society creates social pressure. Individual response to social pressure depends on the mental state of the individual. Some are more susceptible to social pressure, others less. People who freely succumb to all kinds of influences from other people are called conformists.

On the one hand, social pressure draws its power from the individual's fear of rejection, failure, or punishment. People generally fear rejection, so they are afraid to be different from what they anticipate and allow social norms. As a result of succumbing to social pressure, conformism prevails, and thus the society is unifying. We become very much alike in the way we are, think and express our emotions. Since our behavior conforms to a socially accepted pattern, it is becoming easier and easier to predict how we will behave in a particular situation. It is easier in such a situation to artificially create various kinds of social pressure.

Social pressure can come from many different sources and forms. The sources of the most direct social pressure can be school, work, family, neighbors, friends, or distant acquaintances. A concrete example of direct social pressure may be the expectations that his immediate family or his best friends have of a given person. Another example of quite direct social pressure may be the expectations that the workplace has towards a given employee. A less direct form of social pressure, but just as effective, is the pressure exerted by social media, led by television and radio. Not only do advertisements that appear on the radio or television have a breathtaking power to exert social pressure, but also what the presenters or famous actors say in the media, how they express themselves on given topics, and how they dress. All of this has a huge impact on our minds in general. Our opinion of ourselves is mostly shaped in relation to what we see and hear on social media. The press, the Internet, and the rumors circulating have enormous power to exert pressure. On top of all this, there is the fact that numerous sources of social pressure increase each other. Social pressure from various sources is stunningly powerful. Stunning because it literally stuns us!

As a result of constant social pressure, in extreme cases, a person loses the ability to make any reasonable decisions, not to mention the ability to think constructively. Individual decisions are usually derived from enormous social pressure, and in extreme situations, this may have devastating consequences for the social entity that is the man. Mass media shapes many disastrous beliefs in people's minds. We buy this and that very often because the advertisements tell us to do so. It happens that by watching the content in the mass media, we grow into a holy conviction that everything we see there is really necessary for our life and can give us great happiness. It is not even about the advertisements themselves, but also about the social attitudes that are very subtly displayed on the radio, television, and the Internet, and in which we deeply believe. Based on this content, we create our reality. Most people think mass media is infallible, and there is no time to think about it anyway. The answer and excuse for almost anything that requires constructive thinking is a constant lack of time. Why is it that people generally do not have time to think about what they are doing and is everything they see in the media and want to have themselves really necessary, even necessary for life? Usually, before making an important decision, it would be enough to calm down for a moment, pause and calmly rethink everything. But, it looks like there is no time for that. Unfortunately, it is as it is, because, under the influence of social pressure, people generally believe that they have to work hard to earn a living, so mostly all their thoughts are focused on work and career. Time is a pity for everything, just not a pity for work. The greatest fear of a modern young person is related to the loss of a job or the inability to find a well-paid job in the near future.

Any other meditation becomes unnecessary today and it is a waste of time. Today, all media speak of unemployment and problems in the labor market. The social pressure, in this case, is enormous and its consequences are drastic. Everything today revolves around work, earnings, and personal finances. Family and friends are in the background, even though we pretend otherwise. It is also social pressure. On the other hand, it is true that people have to work hard if they are going to pay back the loans they take to buy what they want at any cost. This is one of the many pitfalls posed by the social pressures that are placed on us today. Friends have such and such a car, such and such a refrigerator, a house, and a beautiful garden and they are so happy! In advertisements, banks urge people to take out friendly loans, which are often offered "for free". The family generally supports and adds to the pressure that hangs over us. As a result, we see no way out - if our friends can afford it, we can do it too - and we take out a loan that we have to pay back for many, many years. Work enables us not only to pay off our loans but also gives us a certain social status, which is also a product of social pressure from family and friends, because "What would they think if I became a garbage collector or unemployed?". We are afraid of losing our job. We live in constant tension and fear. Fear covers our whole life. As a consequence, we end up with overwork and the desire for continuous professional promotion. We don't even have time to take care of the children who often come into our lives as a result of pressure from family and close friends. We do not get along with anything in terms of time and mentality. We even have to work on weekends. We don't have time to eat properly, so we eat whatever we want, succumbing to advertisements presenting the interesting advantages of Chinese soups and similar inventions, which slowly devastate our health. After years of such a life, health begins to fail. However, there is still no time for anything, even to see a doctor. As a result of constant stress, rush, greasy, poisonous meals eaten in the city, and lack of time to rest or regular physical activity, we suffer from all kinds of civilization diseases. Hence, they are called Civilization, because they are created by the civilization itself, the so-called civilization progress, society, and its ever-greater pressures. As a result of losing health, we start using various types of drugs that we see in advertisements related to excess stress, digestive problems, and male potency. We start to have problems with sleep, so we reach for various types of sleeping pills, and in extreme cases - alcohol and other stimulants. In such cases, the family often breaks up. In every major city, apart from the ever-growing number of banks willing to grant loans on increasingly friendly terms, today there are many psychologists and various types of family clinics. Anonymous alcoholics and various types of private detoxes dynamically increase the number of people using their offer. Our problems grow over time instead of being solved. Our younger colleagues in the corporation are working longer and longer, doing an incredible amount of overtime. How do they do it? In addition, they carelessly party on weekends. We wonder where they get the strength for it? Fears of losing a position are becoming more and more justified. With time, we don't have the strength to work so much. We fall into severe depression, and shame to the psychologist, because what will the family say? What if the boss finds out? We have had enough of everything. There is no question about going on vacation. No money or time. How about taking advantage of this 7-day vacation offer that has been constantly advertised on TV recently? The first installment of the free loan has already been included in the cost of the stay. But is it worth it? There is no time to wonder because we only have 7 days off, and we leave tomorrow! Then you have to make up for the outstanding work. Is it possible otherwise? Everyone should answer this question for themselves.

Don't get cold! 3 rules of healthy eating in the fall and winter season

 According to doctors, the diet for fall and winter should be different from that for spring and summer. Usually, the change of diet comes naturally to us and we choose dishes that, instead of refreshing, warm up and give strength to fight infections. However, some people, especially those on a diet, find it difficult to switch to more substantial meals. Check what to eat and how to eat in the colder months to boost immunity without gaining weight.

However, some people, especially those on a diet, find it difficult to switch to more substantial meals. Check what to eat and how to eat in the colder months to boost immunity without gaining weight.

Low temperatures outside the window and shorter days affect not only our mood but also our physical health. Many people ignore the relationship between the diet and the season of the year at the expense of lowered immunity. The key is to provide the body with nutrients and vitamins that will take care of the intestinal microflora - the human natural autoimmune system. Eating healthy in the fall also means paying attention to the caloric content of your meals. The diet should be full-bodied, warming up, but not fattening. At the same time, greater physical exertion and reducing carbohydrate "clogs" will help you avoid weight gain.

On cold days, we especially dream of lazing under a warm blanket. But the better way to warm up is to eat the right food! It is worth modifying your autumn diet, including the following in the menu:

  • nutritious breakfasts - the basic rule of healthy eating in the fall is that the daily menu should include as many hot meals as possible. Higher food temperature promotes digestion, and in addition, morning porridge or millet are real vitamin bombs and a valuable source of fiber;
  • spicy spices - naturally increase body temperature and support metabolism. The spicy ones, such as ginger, cinnamon, and cloves, are perfect for sweet and oriental dishes, and more;
  • hot drinks - the best way to warm up is with a cup of a warm, aromatic drink. Choose fruit teas with the addition of elderberry juice, honey, and spices;
  • soups - while in summer we focus on cold soups, the autumn diet must include delicious cream soups. Vegetables from Polish gardens are perfect for this: pumpkins, carrots, onions, and beets. Don't forget about protein-rich legumes like beans, lentils, and chickpeas.

In the fall and winter seasons, we need to take care of the right amount of vitamins and nutrients. Which vitamins and minerals are especially valuable in the diet for fall and winter and where can we find them? We suggest below:

Vitamin C, acting on immunity and as an antioxidant, includes: silage, black currant, pepper, cabbage, citrus;

  • support for immunity and health of the nervous system will be provided by vitamin D (found in fatty fish, eggs, nuts, and cheese) and omega-3 acids (from cod liver oil, oils, and fatty fish);
  • the proper functioning of the digestive system will be positively influenced by probiotics, which can be found in natural yogurts and silage;

For healthy skin and bones, eat legumes, pumpkin seeds, and eggs that contain zinc.

Changing the diet for fall and winter is important for maintaining a healthy body and avoiding seasonal illnesses. However, not always food products will provide us with the right dose of minerals and vitamins. Then it is worth reaching for immunity supplements that help to compensate for the deficiencies of the necessary compounds. Preparations with vitamin D are especially valuable. The vast majority of Poles suffer from its deficiency, especially in the autumn and winter period, therefore, apart from a proper diet, its supplementation is also important. At the pharmacy, you can also buy products with omega-3 acids in the form of capsules with fish oil or oils. If, on the other hand, you eat little silage or are lactose intolerant, it is worth choosing probiotics with specially selected strains of bacteria.

We often don't realize that our health depends on what's on our plate. A proper diet for fall and winter will keep you warm on a cold day, and also help your body fight infections. In addition to healthy eating, it is also important to choose immunity supplements, which you should start using in advance. You can find them in good stationery and online pharmacies.

Abandoned police station near Warsaw and other places where people see ghosts

 Places, where terrible things have happened, are sometimes haunted by the ghosts of those who have been wronged there. Both in Poland and abroad, there are areas where people regularly witness paranormal phenomena

While horror movies may feature different themes, the most frightening ones are productions where ghosts appear. It has long been known that the latter can arouse the feeling of fear and terror even in the most nervously enduring people.

Why are some of us so afraid of ghosts? In fact, it's hard to say why a ghost can scare you more than other characters from horror movies, such as a vampire, zombie, or a werewolf. Or are we afraid of ghosts more because we know that they are not mere fiction? But… do ghosts exist?

Do ghosts really exist or are they merely figments of the imagination of some people? Apart from cinema and television fiction, in our everyday reality, ghost reports are truly rare. Nevertheless, many people prefer not to tell anyone about possible ghost encounters, so we don't really know the true scale of this phenomenon. Most people prefer not to talk about ghosts, even if they have ever met them, because they are afraid of being suspected of being mentally ill.

People are more likely to admit their paranormal experiences when they are sure that other people have seen something similar, and preferably in the same place. But are there places where people really see ghosts? Yes!

If you want to make sure that ghosts exist, you should go to at least one of those places where they really haunt you. In Europe itself, including Poland, there are several places famous for the fact that they are regularly haunted by ghosts. Since in some of the mentioned locations the apparitions have been seen more than once, and in addition by numerous people, it could be safely concluded that these cases are quite authentic and there is no mystification whatsoever.

Haunted places in Poland

Legends and rumors about ghosts, as well as eyewitness accounts of this type of paranormal phenomenon, are present in many areas of our country. Although the reports from the police station in Konstancin-Jeziorna, the Rudzki Forest and the former psychiatric hospital in Oleśno are the most reliable, all the cases described below can be considered as true.

The villa at ul. Morskie Oko in Warsaw

The villa at ul. Morskie Oko 5 in Warsaw is haunted by the ghost of Hanna, a young woman who sought shelter in the aforementioned building during the Warsaw Uprising. She also looked after soldiers who needed help. Young Hanna fell in love with one of them, and one evening, when the girl came out to greet him with a bouquet of flowers in her hand, she was fatally shot by a sniper. Apparently, Hanna can be found in the garden of the villa to this day, dressed in a white dress and still waiting for the return of her beloved soldier.

Ghosts in the Rudzki Forest

The Rudzki Forest in Ruda Pabianicka (Łódzkie Voivodeship) used to be a place eagerly visited by wealthy townspeople. For years, however, guests have been almost exclusively lovers of paranormal phenomena. It is said that shortly after the war, a group of students went missing in the forest, went for a walk with their teacher and never returned to the local primary school. The reports show that the ghosts of children and their caretakers allegedly circulate among the trees to this day and appear after sunset. Apparently, the phantoms were seen by a large number of people, both walking alone and in company.

Ghosts in the former psychiatric hospital in Oleśno

In the past, patients suffering from tuberculosis were treated in the former psychiatric hospital in Oleśno (Opolskie Voivodeship). A large proportion of these patients died in agony, and the ward was defamed for its unusually high death rate. Children were among the deceased patients. Local residents are convinced that their ghosts still haunt the local halls in search of revenge for the harm that the medics have done them.

Strange things started to happen in the psychiatric hospital in Olesno in the late 1950s. Soon after, the hospital was quickly abandoned, and the halls are still scattered with files. Among them there are reports describing mysterious sounds of footsteps or the movement of small items on shelves. It seems that ghosts started haunting hospital rooms back in those days, and this in turn made the medical staff run away in great panic with no intention of returning there.

Children's ghosts in the Palace in Sława

Built in the 15th century, the Castle in Sława (German: Schlesiersee) is located in the Nowosolski County, in the Lubuskie Province. According to the stories of many witnesses, the castle is haunted to this day by the ghosts of young children.

A reader of the portal Głogów - Nasz Miasto with her friends went to the palace in Sława, where she took a large number of photos with her smartphone. When she returned home, she started looking at the photos, she noticed white apparitions in the windows of the palace:

"I was shocked, the ghost of the child appeared in the window. It was a boy in a white shirt and a white cap. I sent these photos to many people who knew something like that. They confirmed my assumptions, especially since in other photos of the same window there was nothing but in the photo in which I was. And the window was above me. It did not give me peace, I went again, but with my cousin. We went inside again, upstairs, I went to the rooms, looking with regret at the devastation people are doing, then we went to the same place where the photos were taken earlier, we repeated the shots. When I looked at the photos at home ... [...] Shock, a different window and a few-month-old baby and many other faces in the attic window. I'm shocked, I'm not afraid of ghosts but I really regret these children, it gives me no peace. "

Police station in Konstancin-Jeziorna

If you want to find out if the ghosts exist or if they are just a figment of human imagination, you should definitely get acquainted with the events that led to the departure of the policemen serving there, the former police station near Warsaw! Before it became the headquarters of the Police in the 1950s, the former police station in Konstancin-Jeziorna belonged to the agents of the Stalinist Security Office. On the first floor there was a room for interrogation of political prisoners. As it is presumed, it was a place of terrible torture and suffering, as well as the death of many interrogated persons. One officer, who interrogated his suspects in an extremely barbaric way, was supposed to be responsible for the torture, and it is his spirit that can be found here. At the beginning of 2000, the policemen working on the ground floor of the building repeatedly complained about the terrifying noises coming from above, despite the fact that no one was there. It happened that footsteps could be clearly heard, as if someone was walking down the wooden stairs towards the duty room. The policemen were so convinced of the reality of this phenomenon that they often took up arms or called on their colleagues for help.

In the winter of 2001, one of the retired policemen noticed a mysterious figure in an officer's uniform next to him. At one point, there was a situation in which none of the policemen wanted to take night shifts. As a result of repeated paranormal events that could not be explained rationally in any way, the policemen decided to leave the building for good. Currently, the former police station in Konstancin-Jeziorna is a mecca for amateurs of scary places and photographers hunting for abandoned buildings.

Ruins of a single-family house in Anin

In Anin in Warsaw, at Tulipanowa Street, in the depths of the forest, about a few hundred meters from built-up areas, at the back of the so-called Górki Delmacha is an abandoned, slowly decaying single-family house. There used to be a happy family with two children. Unfortunately, at one point their father ran into debts that he was unable to pay. The man could not cope with life's difficulties, and finally he completely went crazy. He killed his own family and vanished without a trace.

Three hanged bodies were found in the basement of the building. The property has been abandoned ever since. There are rumors that some see ghosts there. Most people are afraid to go near what the locals say is cursed.

The vicinity of Mielec - the road in Biesadka

In the vicinity of Mielec, by the road in Biesiadka, people see a little ghost after dark. Those who saw the apparition argue that it is the specter of a girl standing bloodied right next to the road. In fact, when they see a bloodied child, many passersby stop to help, but then the ghost disappears. For some time, the police received reports from drivers who, driving the road from Mielec to Kolbuszowa, see a "bloody girl". Sometimes, however, a girl appears in the stories with a rosary in her hand, which, considering the fact that they see her in the middle of the night, also causes them anxiety or fear.

The White Lady at the Palace in Łańcut

Although the palace in Łańcut is an extremely impressive architectural work, its gloomy history can be terrifying. One of the frightening apparitions here is the White Lady (or the White Lady), i.e. Julia Lubomirska, who, at the age of only eighteen, married Jan Potocki. The marriage was not, however, successful, much less happy. As it turns out, Julia very quickly fell in love with the Russian military man, Eustachy Sanguszka. When the officer was sent to the front, Julia fell ill with tuberculosis and died in complete solitude. To this day, her spirit sits in the Chinese lounge, where she writes letters to her beloved.

Haunted Places - Where is the most haunted place in the world?

Of course, people see ghosts all over the world - not only in Poland!

Ghosts in the Tower of London - Great Britain

The place where King Edward IV's children grew up and where they are buried are among the greatest mysteries in the history of Great Britain. According to some, the princes at the age of 9 and 12 were isolated from the world, and thus imprisoned in the Tower of London, where they were later murdered by Richard III, their uncle. In fact, these are only pure assumptions, although it cannot be ruled out that this was the case. One thing is certain, and that is the last time the children were seen in the summer of 1483 while playing in the garden. In 1674, during the reconstruction of the Tower of London, a chest was found with the skeletons of two children (source 8), whose age seemed to correspond to the age of the lost sons of Edward IV. Though their identity has not yet been confirmed, circumstantial evidence suggested that they were princes. The remains were moved to Westminster Cathedral, but the children's ghosts remain in the Tower of London to this day. The ghosts of princes have been seen there more than once, walking up and down the staircase in white nightgowns, occasionally laughing out loud. They also appear in the castle grounds. Some accounts show that the ghosts of princes cry and hug each other. As if they were reliving the tragic event that sentenced them to this place.

A ghost of a child in Crathes Castle - Scotland

Another interesting ghost legend comes from Scotland. In fact, some facts make the ghosts of Crathes Castle more than just local folklore. In a 16th-century castle, the ghost of a little boy is sometimes seen, along with the ghost of an adult. Some argue that this adult is the toddler's mother, while others argue that it is the ghost of a woman who served in the castle after it was rebuilt in later years.

The story of the little ghost from Crathes Castle has a lot of credibility, mainly due to the large number of people who saw the ghost. The adult spirit usually appears in the same room and always wears the same green robe. He rises and stops in front of the fireplace, where he picks up the baby and rocks him in his arms. In the 19th century, renovation workers at Crathes Castle found the remains of a woman and a child right under the fireplace. A disturbing discovery would explain a few details about this legend.

A ghost of a child with empty sockets in Cannock Chase - UK

In the British Cannock Chase forest, people sometimes see a boy-like apparition with empty sockets. Cannock Chase Forest is one of those places where even the most skeptical will find out that ghosts do exist! Some witnesses mention a girl with coal-black eyes. Sometimes it happens that the ghost haunts tourists staying there. Those who encounter a frightening figure floating in the forest usually scare and run in the opposite direction, and apparently that's when their troubles begin! It is said that the intention of the apparition is to make people follow it. For what purpose? Unfortunately, it is not known. In some eyewitness accounts, the mysterious entity is described as laughing and amusing. In others, he seems to scream and worry, as if he is looking for a way out of a great danger.

It is not known who the ghost appearing in Cannock Chase was during his lifetime, although the first reports of its presence in the forest date back to the 1990s. According to some locals, the ghost with empty eye sockets is not the ghost of a deceased child, but demonic energy resulting from a series of murders of young children that took place in the area in the 1960s.

A child's cry on the Van Sant Bridge - Pennsylvania

Like the apparitions themselves, the sounds made by some disembodied beings can terrify even the greatest daredevils! These types of acoustic paranormal phenomena include the crying of a baby coming almost out of nowhere! There are several legends about haunted places where people sometimes hear a scary child's lamentation, but the Van Sant Bridge in Pennsylvania deserves special mention in this regard.

Legend has it that a long-unknown young woman hanged herself on the beams of the Van Sant Bridge, but before she did this macabre act, she threw her newborn baby into the river. In those days, a single mother was a disgrace to the whole family, and it is assumed that the young woman could not withstand the enormous social pressure mentally. As is well known, murders and suicides are traumatic events that often contribute to subsequent paranormal events.

It is said that in order to hear a baby cry, you just need to park your car in the middle of Van San Bridge and lower the windshield.

Haunted castle in Sirmione - Italy

Sirmione Castle is one of the most visited monuments by tourists in northern Italy. The locals know very well that a long time ago, a young couple, Ebengardo and his beautiful wife Arice lived in the castle. They lived happily and quietly until the night when the Venetian knight Elalberto knocked on them asking for shelter due to a heavy storm. The couple agreed to put the knight overnight, but he was so impressed with Arika's beauty that he went to her room in the middle of the night.

The girl was terribly scared and started screaming so loud that the knight probably got scared and murdered her. Hearing the screams of his beloved, Ebengardo came to the rescue, but it was too late for anything. Overcome with anger, Ebengardo grabbed a dagger and killed the Venetian knight. Legend has it that every time a storm hits the castle, you can see the ghost of Ebengardo looking for his beloved wife.

Nostradamus' prophecies for 2023

 Nostradamus is a 16th-century French apothecary, astrologer and prophet, as well as the personal adviser of the Queen of France, Catherine de Medici. While not all of his predictions turned out to be correct, many did. Be sure to find out what Nostradamus has announced for 2023!

Nostradamus was a 16th-century French seer, astrologer, and physician. His collection of poems entitled Les Propheties contains famous prophecies that are so much discussed. A wide range of people argue that Nostradamus did in fact predict several important events that are likely to happen in 2023. It is not clear, however, whether these predictions will actually come true 100 percent.

There are several different interpretations of the prophecies of Nostradamus, and it is difficult to say unequivocally what the French clairvoyant meant when writing his famous centuries. Some believe that in 2023 he predicted a nuclear war or a large asteroid hitting the Earth. Others, however, argue that the predictions of Nostradamus are extremely symbolic and that they can apply to almost any number of events.

Only time will tell if the predictions of Nostradamus for 2023 are credible and if any of them will come true at all. If this really happened, the world could completely change its face.

There is no doubt that Nostradamus was a brilliant and utterly unusual man, and his predictions are, to say the least, intriguing. However, we cannot be sure that all of them are accurate. After all, in the past, many of Nostradamus' prophecies had not come true at all. Still, it's fun to see what the most famous clairvoyant of all time may have seen in his visions and whether it really corresponds to what is happening in the world today. Read on and see for yourself if Nostradamus' predictions for 2023 are right.

Nostradamus wrote down numerous predictions that many believe have already partially come true. For example, he predicted the terrorist attack on the WTC in 2001. The famous seer said that the great king of terror would come to power in 1999, and - beware - that's when the Al-Qaeda terrorist group was formed. He also predicted that a great war would break out in the Middle East in 2020. Unfortunately, this prediction seems quite accurate at this point.

What about other predictions of the famous astrologer? Let us take the French Revolution as an example. Nostradamus predicted it would begin in 1648, and it did. He also correctly predicted the rise of Napoleon and Hitler. But that doesn't mean all his visions come true.

Some believe that Nostradamus foretold the rise of Islam and the fall of the Catholic Church. Apparently, he also predicted the outbreak of World War III. According to some interpretations, this prophecy announces that the aforementioned war will begin in 2019 and will last for 4 years. An apocalypse is expected in 2023 to end this terrible conflict.

While many scholars of Nostradamus' works have endorsed the credibility of his mystical visions, others take his predictions more loosely, arguing that they could refer to any number of events. Regardless of which version you agree with more, one thing is certain: Nostradamus' predictions are always worth learning and discussing.

There are several predictions that people are still eagerly waiting for fulfillment, such as the one about the end of the world in 2023. According to Nostradamus, 2023 will really mean the end of the world?

The name of Nostradamus resounds constantly in the world of prophecy and prophecy. People have been fascinated by his works for centuries, and the apocalyptic visions of the famous prophet are still studied and discussed by scientists and philosophers from almost all over the world.

Nostradamus' predictions for 2023 are very enigmatic and intriguing, and many people wonder if they can really come true soon.

So whether Nostradamus's terrifying predictions for 2023 will come true or not, only time can show. The prophecies of the famous astrologer for 2023 certainly captured the public's imagination. However, it should be remembered that his predictions are open to all possible interpretations and there is no scientific evidence of their reliability.

What do researchers of Nostradamus say about his predictions for 2023? There is no doubt that Nostradamus is a controversial figure and opinions about his prophecies are divided. Some believe he was a true visionary, while others believe that he was an average healer and had little to do with prophecy. So what do experts think about his visions for 2023? While some will find that they can be interpreted in different ways, while others believe they are accurate and accurate, all in all, one thing is for sure - no one really knows what will happen in 2023!

Nostradamus wrote:

"Seven Months of the Great War, People Died Because of Evil"

Do the above words mean that the conflict in Ukraine caused by the Russian invasion could intensify even more, leading to World War III? Not necessarily, as this prophecy could also apply to the ongoing conflict in Southeast Asia between China and Taiwan, which threatens to drag the United States into a terrifying nuclear war.

According to the French clairvoyant, the years 2022/2023 are a breakthrough time for the whole world. During this period, there is to be a person who will end all suffering and evil. Then there will be a new world order. Before that happens, however, people will have to deal with conflicts that are likely to end in the collapse of Russia and China.

According to the French clairvoyant, the US will plunge into a civil war, while Europe can expect mass depopulation due to the use of biological or nuclear weapons. Although Nostradamus has not given any specific dates relating to these prophecies, the hair of the conspiracy theorists is already standing up!

The French clairvoyant mysteriously referred to the "light falling on Mars", suggesting that people could visit the Red Planet as early as 2023. Elon Musk suggested that humans land on Mars by 2029. Does Nostradamus have more precise data on this?

Nostradamus' third prophecy for 2023 refers to a new pope who would replace Francis. Nostradamus suggested that Pope Francis would be the last true pope and that his successor would cause a great scandal:

“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will be Peter the Roman who will shepherd his flock in the midst of many tribulations, after which the city on the seven hills will be destroyed and the terrible Judge will judge the people. End".

A French prophet foretold "a heavenly fire in the royal edifice." This was interpreted as suggesting that a new world order would emerge from the ashes of the present civilization. Other Nostradamus researchers believe that the above words may refer to the definitive end of our planet.

The final prophecy of Nostradamus for 2023 mentions a new alliance between the two powers, but the effects of the new treaty are not expected to be permanent. Will this alliance bring a new world order? Perhaps that is what will happen, but unfortunately peace will only be for a short time.

Are the predictions of Nostradamus for 2023 credible and will they actually come true? Will everything Nostradamus mentions really happen? Unfortunately, no one can clearly confirm this. One thing is certain, however - the predictions of the French clairvoyant have fascinated people and breathtakingly for centuries!

In 1865 a doctor went mad and died trying to convince his colleagues to wash their hands!

 We all recognize the importance of washing our hands these days in order to prevent infection. But a custom that now seems quite logical to us was considered a quirk 150 years ago. Back then, doctors examined the patients after contact with decaying corpses, without washing their hands, of course!

Semmelweis Ignaz (1818-1865) was a Hungarian physician. He obtained a doctorate in obstetrics and assisted professor Klein at the Viennese General Maternity Hospital. Dr. Semmelweis is known to this day as the "father of hand washing". His most important contributions to medical knowledge include promoting hand washing to minimize the risk of infection. Apparently, the society of that time, completely unfamiliar with the rules of hygiene today, was not ready for the good advice of Dr. Semmelweis. The doctor was heavily criticized by his colleagues and ended up in a mental hospital where he died through direct contact with deadly bacteria.

Dr. Semmelweis, who worked as an obstetrician at some point in his career, realized in 1847 that washing hands by medical personnel could reduce patient mortality in hospitals. The disinfection of hands he used before examining women after childbirth caused a radical reduction in mortality from puerperal fever, which was the nightmare of maternity hospitals at that time. Despite this, Dr. Semmelweis was labeled "insane" by the medical community and he did eventually go mad, because he had a hard time dealing with the constant harassment of his colleagues.

19th century European hospitals were extremely dirty places. They lacked any sanitary standards and hygiene rules. Patient bedding was almost always dirty, stained with blood and other body fluids. In those days, people didn't wash their hands at all. Even the doctors did not care about asepsis (avoiding microbial infections). This was because the medics of the time did not have a clue about the routes of transmission of infectious diseases, so they did not try in any way to minimize the risk of the spread of pathogens, which they simply did not know and did not take into account.

Ignaz Semmelweis was a brave physician in the history of medicine. He was a key link in the development of the germ theory. He observed that 40 percent of women in labor who were admitted to the Viennese central hospital became seriously ill and died. Women who chose to give birth at home, and even those who accidentally gave birth on the street, were much less likely to suffer from various diseases than women giving birth in hospitals! Why was this happening? Well, the dirt in the medical facilities of that time and the complete lack of knowledge about the methods of transmission of pathogens contributed to this.

In 1847, Semmelweis witnessed the deterioration of his health and the death of his colleague and friend after he was injured on the hand with a dirty scalpel during an autopsy. Semmelweis began to associate the cause of some diseases with contact with decomposed cadavers without even having a clue about the microbes in them. Dr. Semmelweis noticed that the women in labor, attended by surgeons, often suffered from puerperal fever. These doctors also dealt with autopsies. In the maternity wards there were also patients who were not approached by surgeons, but only by midwives. The latter did not touch the bodies of the deceased, and the patients who were attended only by midwives did not usually get sick and returned home in full health. In this way, Dr. Semmelweis concluded that contact with the corpse caused maternal fever in the ward patients.

Semmelweis concluded that the infected fingers of surgeons lead corpse particles to the sexual organs of pregnant women, and above all to the cervix, which causes serious health complications in pregnant women. As a solution, he placed a container of water and chlorinated lime in the surgical ward, setting a rule for all his colleagues that they would wash their hands thoroughly before dealing with live patients.

As a result of the doctor's radical actions, the mortality rate in the maternity ward dropped to 1 percent! Semmelweis obtained practical results - a significant decrease in postpartum mortality. However, he was not able to precisely explain the mechanism of infection, because in his time the pathogenicity of bacteria and viruses was not known yet. Therefore, his theory was not recognized by the medical community.

Dr. Semmelweis realized that diseases can be transmitted not only through contact with the bodies of deceased patients, but also through contact with living but sick people. As a result of this discovery, the doctor ordered medics to wash their hands thoroughly not only after autopsies, but also to wash their hands and medical instruments additionally before each subsequent examination, which angered students and medical staff.

The medical community was not going to accept Dr. Semmelweis, concerning the sterilization of surgical instruments and washing hands before the examination of patients, surgery or collection from women of childbirth.

Despite the discoveries of Dr. Semmelweis, most doctors of the time were skeptical about his theories and recommendations. Some of them were downright spiteful and under no circumstances wanted to wash their hands before contacting patients, even after performing an autopsy. Semmelweis called them "murderers" and was consequently heavily slandered. The doctor soon began to suffer from depression and obsessive disorder.

Due to constant harassment from his colleagues, Dr. Semmelweis worsened over time. On July 31, the doctor was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Vienna, where he died on August 13, 1865 of the same bacteria with which he fought. The cause of death was an infected wound that was possibly the result of a fight. It is rumored to this day that Dr. Semmelweis could have deliberately injected himself with pathogens harvested from a decaying corpse to prove his theory to the world.
