In summer, we spend more time outdoors. The sun encourages activity, but it is very dangerous. The heat is a direct threat to health and even life. The sun's rays are harmful to our skin, so we should protect it as much as possible. Before leaving the house and before sunbathing, it is absolutely necessary to apply a good quality protective preparation with an SPF filter. Why do we need to protect ourselves from UV rays? What cream, lotion, or oil with a filter should be chosen for the needs of our skin?
On vacation, many people sunbathe on the beach, swim in the water, and walk in the parks. Having free time, we spend a lot of time outdoors, taking advantage of the weather and enjoying the sun. However, it should be done very carefully, because the sun's rays are extremely harmful to our health. They can even be a direct threat to life when we use the sun inappropriately. Sun protection is, therefore, an absolute must when it comes to spending the hot summer outdoors. Some people believe that SPF creams or lotions should only be applied when on vacation. This is a commonly reproduced myth! Sun filters should be applied at any time of the year, even in winter. Although you cannot see the sun, it is always somewhere behind the clouds and emits ultraviolet rays that are harmful to the skin. Yes, the sun is dangerous even in winter! Snow absorbs light beams, reflecting over 90% of UV rays!
The sun is very dangerous to the skin. After 20 minutes, redness may appear on it, when the skin is not protected in any way with cosmetics with a filter. So you can only imagine what would happen to her after a few hours of intense tanning without proper protection. Exposing yourself to the sun for too long without sunscreen accelerates skin aging. If you do not apply sunscreen on your face, even the best aesthetic medicine treatments will not help you rejuvenate your face - especially since the sun is responsible for most of the visible signs of skin aging. Not only does it damage collagen fibers, but also causes spots on the skin, furrows, and numerous wrinkles. UV rays can also cause various diseases such as acne and summer scabies. They can also cause other very serious skin diseases, such as cancer, actinic keratosis, or melanoma. That is why you should put an SPF filter on your face every time you leave the house.

If you have had recent surgery or major cosmetic procedures, avoid direct sun exposure. The same is true for people with skin burns or healing scars after surgery.
Remember that some medications you are taking may increase your sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. These can be medications, among others based on St. John's wort, diuretic tablets, and most antibiotics. If in doubt about tanning the skin after stronger drugs, consult your family doctor.
When looking for a suitable SPF filter, remember that you will need another one for sunbathing in the summer, and another for a walk in the park in early spring.
Put on a lotion? Or maybe an oil or sunscreen? There is no division into better and worse here - the selection of cosmetics is rather an individual matter. Some will spread better on the body, while others will be better absorbed. The most important criterion should therefore be the sunscreen effect of the filters. Sensitive skin will need high protection, and a slightly darker complexion will need smaller filters. So always remember about your complexion type when buying a sunscreen cream or lotion.
In drugstores and pharmacies, we have a lot of less and more effective tanning preparations to choose from. Fortunately, everyone should find the perfect product for themselves, tailored to the needs of the skin and complexion. When looking for the right cream or lotion, you can usually come across three types - chemical, physical and mixed. What exactly are the different types of these filters all about? We will try to explain!
1. Chemical filters - are products that penetrate deeply into the skin and absorb the sun's rays. In this way, they turn them into thermal energy. Filters of this type are distinguished by excellent photoprotection while being light and invisible on the skin. They also don't leave a heavy, greasy layer on the body as they blend in with the skin. You should apply the product approx. 30 minutes before sun exposure. However, it needs to be corrected approximately every 3 hours, because chemical filters are not very durable. They are perfect for acne and oily skin. Allergy sufferers, in turn, must be careful with these filters because they can cause allergies.
2. Physical filters - also called mineral filters. They reflect and scatter the sun's rays, creating the so-called mirror. These are photostable filters, so they do not lose any valuable properties. They are also perfectly tolerated by sensitive skin, but they can make it a bit greasy and leave white spots. Their biggest disadvantage is low resistance to abrasion or contact with water. After leaving the water, it is necessary to apply another layer of the SPF filter.
3. Mixed filters - it is a perfect combination of both chemical and physical filter features. These products are photostable and photoprotective while maintaining a light consistency. They spread quickly and are thoroughly absorbed. They can be used by people with sensitive skin as well as oily or acne-prone skin.
What kind of protection should you choose? It's best to choose a filter that matches your own skin phototype. SPF, i.e. the sun protection factor, should be selected individually. Fair skin with freckles and light or red hair can burn the skin quickly. Such complexion also rarely tans. Therefore, an SPF 50 or 30 filter is recommended, which will effectively protect the skin. For people with a slightly darker complexion and blonde hair, we recommend a minimum SPF 20 filter. In the case of a dark complexion without freckles, whose owners have brown hair, an SPF 15 filter is enough. For people with a very dark complexion and black hair, an SPF 10 filter is recommended. in this case, however, it is only about the body. Always use high SPF 30-50 filters for the face, regardless of the phototype.
The best SPF cream should have a light texture. Just such a preparation will not leave sticky marks on the skin or on clothes. When you apply it to acne-prone skin, it will not cause further problems with imperfections or allergies. Unfortunately, greasy cream is always less absorbed, so it can be ineffective. Pay attention not only to the consistency but also to the water resistance of the product. When you plan to swim in the sea or lake, the sunscreen should be resistant to the effects of water. Not only will it become very durable then, but also it will not require re-application after water madness. It is also worth choosing a waterproof preparation because we sweat a lot in the summer. Thanks to this feature, you will not need to correct the filter every now and then.
Have you already chosen your body or face filter? Learn how to apply it correctly so that the sun will not take its toll on you. How much to apply the preparation? About 1.5 ml should perfectly protect the mouth from harmful sun rays. Of course, it is very difficult to calculate exactly how much product to apply to the skin - especially the whole body.
So it's best to dose it with two fingers! Approximately 20 ml of any preparation should be sufficient to protect the entire body. Apply the cream half an hour before exposure to the sun, so that the preparation takes effect and protects the face and body well. For your own safety, please adjust the filter every 2-3 hours. Also remember to use SPF creams every day, not only on vacation. Thanks to this, you will enjoy healthy, radiant, and young skin for a long time!
