Recently, a new competitor to the famous Optimus Tesla has emerged in the robotics market - the humanoid robot Kepler Forerunner. Priced at approximately $30,000, Forerunner features advanced movement capabilities, precise hand control, and sophisticated visual perception, making it a real competitor to Optimus.
Bill Gates, referring to the growing importance of humanoid robots, predicted that artificial intelligence could significantly reduce the burden on people in everyday work. This vision is taking shape in the context of technological progress in robots such as Kepler Forerunner.
The Chinese company Kepler, which created the Forerunner, has ambitious plans for its role in the future. This robot, which will be presented at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, could accelerate the arrival of the "three-day work week," say Kepler engineers.
The Forerunner has an impressive design: it is 178 cm tall, weighs 85 kg and is equipped with 12 degrees of freedom hands and a total body with a total of 40 degrees of freedom. Thanks to this, the robot can navigate perfectly in difficult terrain conditions and can overcome various obstacles.
Interestingly, the Forerunner, like the Optimus, uses a planetary roller screw and a rotary actuator for precise hand control. Its 8,000 Newton meters of thrust and 200 Nm of peak torque outperform conventional actuators used in competing robots.
The robot is also equipped with an advanced perception system that includes a wide-angle camera, a set of four far-field microphones, an accelerometer and AHRS (attitude and heading reference system). It communicates with people using a synthetic voice module and stereo speakers. All information from these sensors passes through a special AI system called Nebula, which makes the Forerunner intelligent enough to navigate complex environments.
Kepler encourages developers from around the world to collaborate to further improve humanoid robots. The company believes that humanoid robots will revolutionize productivity and usher in a breakthrough chapter in their use.
The first copies of Forerunner are expected to be delivered to customers in the third quarter of this year, and their price is set at around $30,000 - which is slightly more expensive compared to the expected $20,000 for Optimus.
