One of the satellites that photographed Antarctica in 2016 discovered a strange formation on the icy continent, resembling a giant entrance to a cave or tunnel. This sparked the imagination of people who have long claimed that there is an entrance to the underworld in Antarctica.
The dimensions of this "entrance" are amazing - it is about 90 meters wide and 30 meters high. Is this object man-made or natural? Many researchers still argue about this. Modern Antarctica is 14 million square kilometers of barren ice desert with very harsh natural conditions. The air temperature in the coldest period ranges from -65 to -80 degrees Celsius, and the wind speed reaches 300 kilometers per hour. There are no permanent settlements on this continent, except for the scientific stations of some states, whose staff changes periodically. But have such conditions always existed in Antarctica?
Some clue that it is not the so-called Piri Reis map. This is a map from the 15th or 16th century that shows part of the world, including Antarctica. This map shows Antarctica as an ice-free area, which is considered unbelievable today, considering that this area is covered by ice sheets and glaciers.
However, it should be remembered that the Piri Reis map was created at a time when the discovery of Antarctica was still ahead of us, and knowledge about the geography and topography of the Earth was very limited. Many researchers believe that the depiction of Antarctica on the Piri Reis map as ice-free is more the result of errors in the interpretation and reconstruction of the map than a conscious attempt to represent unknown geographical facts. This means that perhaps it was redrawn from a much older map. However, no one knows how old it was, since it depicted a continent without ice.

On the Piri Reis map, this continent is shown without the ice cover, and at the same time its image is very accurate. How did anyone know what land under the ice looked like? It remains a mystery.
This is indirect evidence that there were maps of Antarctica, and therefore of intelligent life, at a time when this continent, consisting of two huge islands, was not yet bound by a thousand-year-old ice sheet. But if at that time there were technologies that made it possible to create high-quality maps of continents, were these highly developed civilizations of the past able to create such artificial objects as this huge entrance?
Moreover, this "tunnel entrance" is not the only one. A few kilometers from the first "entrance", on the other side of the ridge, there is another similar structure, the artificial nature of which, according to some researchers, is beyond doubt.
Virtual archaeologists in the photo saw not only the entrance itself but also a giant "hatch", that is, a mechanism in the form of a convex door made of gray metal with huge rivets along the edges that open and close this entrance.
For the first time, these objects were discovered on Queen Mary's Land in the eastern part of Antarctica by the American explorer Joseph Skipper, who for many years has been studying various interesting places on our planet and natural phenomena based on photos from scientific and research expeditions. Given that these structures look completely abandoned, we can draw a completely logical conclusion about the existence of a highly developed civilization in the distant past on the territory of Antarctica. Or is Antarctica the mythical Atlantis?
It is possible that the "entrances" to a certain "underground city" or "base" were exposed as a result of climate change and the beginning of the melting of the Antarctic ice sheet. But maybe someone else uses this underground facility?
There is a theory that there is a secret Nazi base in Antarctica. According to this theory, after the end of World War II, a group of Nazis fled Germany to Antarctica, where they set up a secret base where they continued their scientific and military research. It is also worth noting that the Antarctica Nazi base theory is often linked to other conspiracy theories, such as UFO theories and secret world government theories.
