Sebastian Sierpiński was born in 1995 in Dębno. It is a small town in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is inhabited by about 13,000 inhabitants. However, the Sierpinski family decided to emigrate to Norway. They lived there for years. However, Sebastian decided to return to Poland before disappearing, and more specifically to his hometown. His parents stayed in Scandinavia.
In July 2021, Sierpiński was employed as a supplier on a farm in Wirówek. It is a settlement located about 70 km from Dębno. It seems like quite a distance, but Sebastian didn't mind. August 14 was another working day for the man. Finally, evening came. It was the time when Sebastian and his boss, Krystian, were touring the farm. The men checked that everything was fine. So they could go back to their homes.
At some point, however, the 26-year-old began to behave strangely. He looked around and checked the view in the side mirrors. It looked as if he had the feeling that someone was following him. He also looked at his superior driver. Krystian remembered the passenger's terrified gaze. The driver of the vehicle slowed down because he was concerned about this odd behavior. Sierpiński took advantage of this situation.
Sebastian opened the door and ran out of the car. He began to run deep into the cornfield, which was right next to the road the two men were passing. This peculiar incident took place around 9:00 p.m., so it was already dark. The 26-year-old's boss got out of the car and reportedly called his employee for half an hour. However, there was no response, so he eventually returned home alone.
Importantly, the 26-year-old left documents and a wallet in the boss's car. According to some sources, a telephone was also found in the vehicle. According to others, Sebastian took the mobile with him. Anyway, it was inactive. Probably discharged after a day of use. He also had the keys to his apartment with him.
Sierpinski's parents talked to their son on the phone almost every day. In mid-August, contact broke off. At first, the relatives of the 26-year-old did not care about this situation. They thought maybe their son was busy. He was also an adult, after all, and did not have to report on past events every day. After a few days without any news, however, the parents began to worry. The last time they spoke to their son was Friday morning. Tuesday came and Sebastian still showed no sign of life.
So the parents decided to contact their son's employer that day. He told them about a strange situation that took place on the evening of August 14. This shocked the 26-year-old's relatives even more. So they asked Mr. Krystian to report the disappearance to the police. The man did just that. Meanwhile, the Sierpińskis began to prepare for their return to Poland.
After receiving the report, the police began searching for the man. They were attended not only by the relevant services but also by numerous volunteers who heard about the case. At first, the area where he was last seen was checked. Searching the cornfield, nearby forests and meadows, and even nearby water reservoirs did not help much. Interestingly, specially trained dogs did not follow the trail in the vicinity of the alleged disappearance.
One of the potential leads was the events of June 2021, just two months before the disappearance. Sebastian then started flirting with a woman who was in a relationship with another man. A jealous partner warned Sierpiński to leave his girlfriend alone. However, the 26-year-old did not take these words to heart. This led to a brawl between the rivals.
As a result of this clash, Sebastian suffered facial injuries. The most painful, however, was reportedly male pride. Sierpiński decided not to report the matter to the police. Surprisingly, the whole situation did not make the 26-year-old lose interest in the busy girl. Because of this, her boyfriend allegedly threatened him. Investigators became interested in this thread after the mysterious disappearance.
They managed to reach the man who had beaten the missing man. They considered him the prime suspect. This man confirmed that such an event actually took place. However, he admitted that he last saw Sebastian on the day of the beating. At the time of his disappearance, he was supposed to be staying with his partner at their home. Investigators eventually ruled out his connection to the case.
Exactly one month after the disappearance of the man, i.e. on September 14, an interesting discovery was made. A straw hat was found. It resembled the hat Sebastian often wore. The hat was discovered behind the farm where Sierpiński worked. This raised many doubts as to the veracity of the chief's words. This place was far away from the cornfield. It is known, however, that during the strange car ride, the 26-year-old had a hat on his head. It was also puzzling that the headgear was in suspiciously good condition. So it could have been an unfunny joke or an attempt to confuse the investigators.
To this day, unfortunately, Sebastian has not been found. Even a cash prize of PLN 20,000 for the person who provides relevant information to solve this mysterious case did not help. Finally, let's try to answer the question of what could have happened to the missing person.
A likely option is a psychotic episode or mental illness. The strange behavior of the man just before his disappearance could also be due to, for example, a panic attack. Another explanation could finally be brain damage following the June beating.
Personally, this case reminds me strongly of the case of Lars Mittank. He, too, was beaten shortly before his disappearance, then behaved strangely, and finally irrationally escaped from the airport. Many believe that the reason was just neurological damage or mental disorders.
Many Internet users assume, however, that the man's boss had something to do with the disappearance. On the one hand, the story he told seems totally absurd. I think it would be hard to come up with something like that. On the other hand, the lack of reaction of the boss to the such peculiar behavior of his employee is very suspicious. He did not notify his family or the police, although he should have.
Hopefully one day we'll find out the truth. Less than two years have passed since Sebastian's disappearance. So there is a chance that the man will be found alive. At least that's what his relatives believe.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that Sebastian's case resembles the equally peculiar disappearance of Klaudia Jarnecka in several respects. Undoubtedly, they are connected by circumstances (they both suddenly jumped out of the car), time (they went missing 2 months apart, in the second half of 2021), and even place (their hometowns are only about 23 km apart). Of course, this is probably just a grim coincidence, but many people often compare the two.
