On August 3, the eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano began in Iceland, located 30 kilometers southwest of Reykjavik and near the Keflavik international airport, AP writes.
The eruption can be observed on web cameras installed in the volcano. Scientists predicted an eruption after a series of earthquakes last week that signaled an increase in seismic activity.
Fagradalsfjall volcano erupted last March and for several months lava was pouring out of it, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators. Eight months ago, the end of the eruption was officially announced. The country's weather service urges people not to go near the volcano, but judging by the photos on social networks, some still ignore the call.
There are around 30 major volcanoes in Iceland. In 2010, a volcanic eruption near the Eyjafjallajökull glacier disrupted air traffic for several weeks.
