A plane wreck was found in Switzerland that disappeared half a century ago

According to a statement published by the police of the Canton of Wallis, the glacier of the Piper Cherokee plane was found on the Aletsch glacier and crashed in 1968. The plane was discovered as a result of melting ice.

The Swiss Investigation Service (SESE) was informed by the Air Force about the discovery of a plane wreck on the Aletsch Glacier. During the investigation, it was found that the wreckage belonged to the Piper Cherokee aircraft with registration number HB-OYL, which crashed at this location on June 30, 1968.

It was announced that work related to its acquisition will start as soon as possible. Police explain that due to the melting of glaciers, especially in summer, other debris may break off the ice. The department urges that these items should not be touched if found.
