Have you heard of the Mothman? Well let me tell you...

You might have seen the 2002 motion picture The Mothman Prophecies directed by Mark Pellington or read the 1975 book by the same name which was penned by John Keel. These were inspired by alleged real-life sighting in the mid-1960s.

The Mothman is said to be a human sized bird-like creature. On 12th November 1966 in Clendenin, West Virginia a group of workers digging a grave in a cemetery said they saw a brown human like creature flying from some nearby trees. They also said that it flew towards them and glided over their heads.

In spite of this later that morning two men who believed what they saw was real. They described the creature as 6 -7 feet in height, wings spanning 10 feet and red eyes that were a couple inches in diameter and 6 inches apart. They also said that they hadn’t taken any alcohol.

Over a year later on December 15 1967 a Bridge crossing the Ohio River into the City of Gallipolis called the Silver Bridge collapsed. When the bridge collapsed 46 were killed during the rush hour period. Officially the collapse of the bridge was put down to the wear and tear of the bridge’s metal. However some locals blamed the mothman. Some people believe that there was a link between the creature sightings and the bridge’s collapse as by this time the sightings of the Mothman had stopped.
