What Is The Truth About the Reptilian Theory?

Despite enormous technological advances and access to knowledge, the modern world continues to grapple with the phenomenon of conspiracy theories. One of the most surreal, yet enduring, concepts is the so-called reptilian. According to proponents of this theory, the world is ruled not by humans but by shape-shifting, reptilian humanoids who have infiltrated the highest levels of power to control humanity. While this sounds like the plot of a low-budget science fiction film, it is a terrifying reality for thousands of people worldwide.

The foundation of the contemporary narrative about reptilian humans is the work of David Icke. He popularised a vision of a world in which political elites and celebrities are, in fact, alien beings. Icke presents himself not as a mere observer, but almost as a prophet who seeks to liberate humanity from slavery by revealing a hidden truth.

In his view, the universe is a living organism, full of secret messages, and the only path to freedom is understanding these overlapping realities. This approach takes this theory beyond mere speculation, becoming a kind of modern, secular religion with its own cosmology.

The list of people accused of being reptilians is surprisingly long. Analysing video footage purportedly showing changes in the eye or skin structure of famous figures is circulating online. Suspects include members of the British royal family, including the late Queen Elizabeth II, and popular artists such as Justin Bieber.

For adherents of these theories, any unusual gesture or digital transmission error is evidence that the reptilian human mask has failed. Moreover, this theory is often linked to other conspiracies. For example, some claim that the September 11, 2001, attacks were not the work of terrorists, but a planned "internal" operation orchestrated by the reptilian caste to advance a specific political agenda.

From a historical perspective, this theory didn't arise in a vacuum. Historians, including Edward Guimont, note that Icke's ideas draw on earlier pseudohistorical legends.  Modern conspiracy theorists have simply adopted these archaic fears and transformed them into a modern myth of alien invaders.

Science is trying to explain why people believe such incredible claims. Psychology and psychoanalysis point to mechanisms much deeper than simple naiveté. Trauma research suggests that belief in conspiracy theories may be a defence mechanism.

In certain cases, the vision of a world controlled by powerful, supernatural beings allows individuals with unresolved childhood traumas to give structure to their inner chaos. Transferring fear to an external, mythical enemy can serve as a mediator between the psyche and painful memories that are too difficult to bear in their pure form.

Unfortunately, belief in the existence of reptilians doesn't end with online forum discussions. It can lead to real aggression and dangerous behaviour. There have already been more than a dozen violent incidents in which individuals convinced of the reptilian people's existence have attempted to "stop" their activities. One of the most drastic examples was the December 2020 car bomb attack in Nashville. This demonstrates the thin line between innocent paranormal interest and dangerous fanaticism.

Analysis of the spread of this content on social media, particularly on the X platform (formerly Twitter), shows that conspiracy theories create airtight information bubbles. Users reinforce each other's beliefs, ignoring any scientific evidence. This creates closed communities where the only criterion of truth is conformity to the narrative of opinion leaders like the aforementioned David Icke.

Reptilians, then, remain a myth that has evolved alongside culture and technology. Although there is no biological or physical evidence of shape-shifting reptilians ruling the world, the theory continues to attract attention. It does so not because it is true, but because it offers simple answers to complex questions about the nature of power, the injustice of the world, and human suffering. For many, it's easier to believe in monsters in suits than in the reality that the world is ruled by unpredictable chaos and human incompetence.
