Mysterious disappearance after a party

In March 2023, 21-year-old Michał Delewski disappeared in Warsaw. A civil engineering student, he was quiet and rather introverted, but had his own close-knit group of friends. He lived with his mother and sister in Bielany, while his father worked abroad. His loved ones described him as responsible, helpful, and with a rational approach to life. He was interested in construction, planned a future in the industry, and had specific plans—both professional and personal.

On March 10, 2023, Michał went to a friend's birthday party near his home. He had spent the day completely normally – he went to a shopping mall, bought a gift, dropped off his CV at a tea shop, and planned a movie for the next day. There was no indication that anything untoward was about to happen. In the evening, he helped his mother prepare for her appointment and left the apartment around 6:00 PM.

The party itself was peaceful. It was a gathering of friends who knew each other well, without any conflicts or unsettling situations. Michał behaved normally – laughing, talking, and having a good time. He drank alcohol, but according to reports, not to excess. Around 25 minutes after midnight, he left his apartment and headed home.  And here begins the biggest mystery of this story.

He had less than 500 meters to walk. Instead of walking straight ahead, however, he changed direction for some reason. CCTV later recorded him at the North Bridge, a location several kilometres away. Furthermore, he arrived at a time that suggests he wasn't walking, although there's no evidence he used public transportation. He didn't pay for a taxi or ride with a card, and there's no record of ordering an Uber.

Around 2:06 a.m., his mother sent him a text message. A few minutes later, she received a call from a stranger who had found Michał's backpack lying on the bridge. Inside were documents, a phone, and personal belongings. That was the moment it became clear that something was wrong.  Surveillance footage captured Michał standing at the bridge railing, looking toward the river. He stood there for a long moment. At one point, the camera panned, and when it returned to its previous position, Michał was gone.  From that moment on, the trail stopped…

Emergency services quickly launched an operation. Police, firefighters, and divers arrived on the scene. They searched the Vistula River using sonar, inspected the surrounding area, and analyzed surveillance footage. However, no concrete leads emerged. No body was found, and there were no credible clues suggesting what exactly happened.

The family also conducted their own investigation. Michał's father searched for surveillance cameras in the area, which uncovered additional footage confirming his son's route. Hospitals were checked, witnesses were interviewed, and every possible piece of information was analyzed. There were isolated reports from people claiming to have seen Michał after his disappearance, but none of these were confirmed.

The most frequently considered hypothesis is suicide. The last place Michał was seen suggests this. The problem, however, is that nothing previously indicated this. He had plans for the coming days, was in the process of looking for a job, and was planning trips and meetings with friends. His family didn't notice any warning signs, and he wasn't undergoing psychiatric treatment.

The second theory is that he may have been the victim of a crime. However, even here, doubts arise. North Bridge is not a deserted place; even at night, people pass through. It's difficult to imagine someone carrying out a kidnapping or attack without any witnesses. No signs of a struggle or other evidence suggesting third-party involvement were found.

More complex scenarios also arise, such as the influence of alcohol or other substances that could have influenced his decisions and behaviour that night. However, there is no evidence to definitively confirm this course of events.  One of the most puzzling questions remains the very fact that Michał found himself on the bridge. Why did he change route? Was someone directing him there, or was it a spontaneous decision? This question remains unanswered to this day and is crucial to understanding the entire case.

Michał Delewski's disappearance has been compared to other similar cases in Warsaw, in which young men have disappeared near bridges. While there is speculation about a possible connection, there is no evidence to confirm it.

Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved. Michał's family continues to search for answers and publicise his disappearance. The biggest problem is the lack of a breakthrough clue—something that would definitely determine what happened that night.

To this day, it's unknown whether Michał Delewski fell victim to an unfortunate accident, made a drastic decision, or something far more disturbing befell him. Only one thing is certain: he disappeared in a place and at a time that seemed too "ordinary" for something so mysterious to have occurred.
