The Shadows That Followed Me: 5 Paranormal Encounters That Still Haunt My Mind

We live in a world where the line between what’s real and what’s imagined can sometimes blur—and occasionally, something crosses that line and leaves you questioning everything. These aren’t tales passed down by others. These are my personal, unexplainable experiences. I’ve had brushes with things that defy logic—ghostly apparitions, doppelgängers, and entities in the sky that felt… aware.

If you're a skeptic, I welcome your curiosity. If you believe in the paranormal, prepare for a chilling ride. Here are five moments in my life where reality twisted—and never quite untwisted again.

📍 1. The Evening I Wasn’t Alone in Kraków (2011)

I still remember the exact moment: it was early evening in my quiet bedroom in Kraków. I had my headphones in, revising for work experience I couldn’t miss, while my family had gone to a funeral. I was completely alone in the apartment—or so I thought.

Suddenly, I felt it. A distinct touch on my arm.

I ripped off my headphones and froze. No one was there.

Then, I glanced toward my desk. Above it hung a decorative 3D glass picture frame. And in one of those shimmering glass layers… I saw a man. Not just any man. He bore the exact likeness of my grandfather, who had died three months before I was born in 1990.

But this was 2011. And this wasn’t a memory—it was a presence. A silent, chilling echo of someone I had never met… staring back.

📞 2. The Phone Call from the Dead (2016)

After my first partner passed away in 2016, strange things started happening almost immediately.

The first incident still sends shivers down my spine. I was holding his phone in one hand—it was off. I had switched it off myself, frustrated that people kept calling, unaware he had died. Suddenly, the phone I was holding started ringing… from his number.

I wasn’t the only one in shock—his family was there with me. We all witnessed it.

Over the next few weeks, the paranormal activity escalated. A teaspoon began spinning by itself in a small ceramic bowl. Our electric fan heater would flick on and off on its own, even when unplugged.

Four months later, things peaked. At around 3 a.m., the boiler and heating system erupted to life. The thermostat was off, yet the house turned from freezing November chill to sweltering heat. I reset the boiler—twice. It took over an hour to cool the place down.

At the same time, the TV flicked on. Channels began flipping on their own, and the volume surged until the sound nearly rattled the walls. Yet the neighbors heard nothing. When I asked them the next morning, they either weren’t home—or heard absolutely nothing.

How could a house become so alive… while the rest of the world slept soundly?

🌌 3. Sky Ghosts and a Thank You in the Dark (Unknown Dates)

Not all paranormal events happen in old houses or graveyards. Some take place right above your head—or in plain sight.

One night, just past midnight, I was returning home when I saw something soaring in the sky. It wasn’t a plane. It wasn’t a drone. It was something ethereal, ghost-like, flying far too smoothly—almost like it was gliding. I wasn’t the only one who saw it; a man getting out of a nearby taxi looked up at the same moment. He froze, his face drained of color.

Another time, around 5 p.m. in January, I passed by a local school. What I saw was deeply unsettling: a man half-undressed, seemingly in the process of changing clothes outside in the cold. A teenage boy—maybe 14 or 15—ran past me, shouting “thank you!” as if something had just saved him. But from what? And why was no one else reacting?

These weren’t just weird moments. They felt out of sync with reality, like scenes cut from a darker timeline.

🧍‍♀️🧍 Doppelgängers of My Bloodline (Multiple Occasions)

This one still makes me question the nature of identity itself.

My family seems to have a strange history with doppelgängers. Years ago, my uncle was home with my mother when our grandparents called in confusion: they had just seen him outside the university late at night—but he had been home the entire time.

Similar things happened with my mum. Friends and family reported seeing her by the Main Market Square in Kraków, yet she hadn’t left the house. And then it happened to me.

Decades later, I walked into a shop in Poland and the cashier asked, “Back so soon?” I hadn’t been there that day. Multiple times in various stores—both in Poland and the UK—staff insisted I’d just been there buying the exact same item, even topping up my phone minutes apart.

Who—or what—was walking in my skin?

🌠 5. The Dancing Lights and a Warning from the Sky (January 2025)

This was my most recent and perhaps most unnerving experience.

It was just after 5 p.m. in January. I was walking home after some errands when I noticed a strange "star" in the sky. But it wasn’t a star. It moved—intelligently. Then, a second light joined it, and they began “dancing” in sync.

Suddenly, I heard it. A loud, clear voice—seemingly from nowhere—yelling “STOP! FBI!” The sky seemed to empty of sound. Everything felt still… wrong.

My boyfriend and I kept walking, but the two lights followed us from the sky. Not aggressively—but knowingly. They stayed until we reached home. We looked at each other in silence, both sensing the same thing: they weren’t just lights. They were watching.

👁

I’ve tried to explain these events. I’ve considered hallucinations, faulty wiring, coincidence, and emotional stress. But when so many events span over years and involve multiple witnesses—when the cold becomes burning hot and the sky stares back—it’s hard to ignore.

I’m not here to convince anyone. I’m just telling you what I’ve seen, heard, and felt. And maybe you’ve felt something, too.

🕯️ Share your strange experiences in the comments.

Until next time… stay aware of the shadows. Sometimes, they’re not yours.
