The Pentagon has released its latest report on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs), commonly known as UFOs, revealing a staggering 757 new sightings, including a disturbing sighting near New York City. The document sheds new light on the scale of mysterious phenomena observed in American airspace and waters and how common such reports have become.
Of particular note is an incident that could have ended tragically - a close encounter between a passenger plane and an unidentified cylindrical object over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of New York.
The crew of the commercial airline reported the incident to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), classifying it as a "near miss" - a situation in which only a lucky coincidence prevented a potential disaster. Worryingly, details of the incident, such as the exact date and the name of the airline, remain undisclosed.
The Pentagon's All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) is still investigating the matter. Importantly, this is the only case in the entire report in which a "potential threat to flight safety" was officially noted during the observation of an unidentified object.
The report covers the period from May 1, 2023 to June 1, 2024 and contains an analysis of 757 UFO cases, including 272 incidents that occurred earlier but were not previously reported to the American authorities. Investigators were able to explain almost 300 of the reported cases, identifying them as weather balloons, birds, conventional aircraft, drones or satellites.
Of particular interest is the growing influence of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite system on the number of reports. More and more UFO sightings turn out to be related to these satellites, which, moving in characteristic "chains" in the night sky, are often misinterpreted as unidentified flying objects.
Witnesses described a variety of phenomena - from unidentified lights to objects with a spherical or spherical shape. One of the more unusual reports mentions a sighting of something resembling a jellyfish with flashing lights. However, hundreds of other sightings remain unexplained, mainly due to insufficient data to draw firm conclusions.
AARO emphasizes in its report that despite the large number of unexplained cases, no evidence of extraterrestrial origin of the observed phenomena has been found. "It is important to emphasize that to date, AARO has not discovered any evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial beings, their activities or technology," the report states.
The publication of this document coincides with hearings in the US House of Representatives on the alleged cover-up of information about UFOs, which further underlines the growing interest of the US authorities in this topic. The systematic approach to investigating and documenting unidentified anomalous phenomena shows that this issue is taken with due seriousness by US government institutions.
This report is another step towards greater transparency in the UFO case, while also showing how many questions remain unanswered. Despite the lack of evidence for extraterrestrial origins of the observed phenomena, the sheer scale and nature of the reports suggest that the airspace over the United States still holds many mysteries waiting to be explained.
