Mysterious explosion and strange lights in Wałbrzych (Poland) - no one knows what happened

The night of July 22, 2024 will remain in the memory of the residents of Wałbrzych for a long time. A loud explosion that rang out around 11:20 p.m. alarmed residents of various districts of the city, and its echo reached even neighboring towns, such as Głuszyca and Jedlina-Zdrój. Although the emergency services responded quickly, the cause of the explosion could not be clearly determined.

The Central Mining Institute in Katowice will now speak out on this mystery, which, with the help of specialized drones with gas detectors, is to determine what exactly happened.

The residents of Stare Zdrój, Nowe Miasto and Śródmieście heard a powerful bang that tore them from their sleep. The fire brigade and police immediately took action, but no traces of damage or immediate danger were found. Only a garden camera on Piłsudskiego Street recorded the moment of the explosion, immortalizing the flash of light and the sound of the explosion. Mrs. Emilia Dyduch, a resident of Wałbrzych, took a photo right after the explosion, showing moving light rays.

The Central Mining Institute (GIG) in Katowice, which deals with a wide range of research related to mining, environmental protection and industrial safety, was asked to help solve the mystery of the explosion. GIG experts have numerous research projects under their belt, including monitoring ground deformation, hydrogeological research and assessment of seismic hazards.

Specialist drones equipped with gas detectors will arrive in Wałbrzych to help detect possible gas leaks in post-mining corridors and shafts. Thanks to modern technology and advanced research methods, scientists will be able to precisely determine the source of potential threats and prevent potential disasters.

Many residents reported their experiences from the night of the explosion, describing a loud bang and a flash of light. Although no physical damage was observed, the incident raised concerns among the local community.

Wojciech Łomnicki, head of crisis management in Wałbrzych, assured that there is no immediate threat, but emphasized the need to thoroughly investigate the matter. “We must not scare anyone, this is absolutely not a topic to play on emotions, there is no threat at the moment, but I believe that it should be checked,” he said in an interview.

The Central Mining Institute, operating since 1925, is one of the most important research institutes in Poland. Its activities cover a wide range of research related to mining safety, environmental protection and technological innovation. The Institute conducts research on seismic hazards, rock bursts, and also monitors radioactive contamination in the atmosphere and water.

Future research conducted by GIG may provide answers to many questions regarding the explosion in Wałbrzych. Drones with gas detectors will investigate various locations to check whether gas is accumulating in the mine shafts, which could be the cause of the explosion. If any hazardous substances are detected, the city authorities will be able to take appropriate preventive measures.

Although the cause of the explosion in Wałbrzych remains unknown, the involvement of the Central Mining Institute gives hope that this mystery will be solved quickly. Thanks to modern technologies and the experience of experts from Katowice, the residents of Wałbrzych can count on detailed and reliable research that will allow us to determine what really happened on July 22, 2024.
