Record-breaking winter attack in the Alps at the end of April - one meter of snow fell in 3 days

Although the calendar spring has lasted for several weeks, it is still real winter in the Alps. The end of April brought heavy snowfall, which surprised tourists visiting the region. Over the last three days, over a meter of snow has fallen in some ski resorts.

The Stubai Glacier in Tyrol is particularly snow-covered, with 5.65 meters (almost 19 feet) of white powder on the slopes. This is one of the deepest snowpacks recorded in the Alps this season. The Stubai resort plans to remain open until the end of May to allow skiers to benefit from these exceptional conditions.

Also in Engelberg, Switzerland, almost 1 meter of snow fell within 72 hours, and the depth of snow cover on the local glacier reaches 4 meters. In total, about 30 ski resorts in the Alps remain open in the last week of April, half of which intend to operate until May.

This situation is a real winter in the middle of spring. Tourists who came to the Alps to enjoy the first signs of a warmer season had to prepare for completely different conditions. Instead of spring flowers, there was snow on the slopes, and skiers could take full advantage of the excellent conditions.

Although such snowfalls in April are rare, experts emphasize that in recent years we have been dealing with similar situations more and more often. Climate change means that traditional seasons are blurring, and the mountains can still experience heavy snowfall even in advanced spring.

This is of course good news for winter sports enthusiasts - they will be able to enjoy skiing longer than usual. However, for tourists planning spring trips to the Alps, this situation may come as quite a surprise. You will need to take warm clothes and winter equipment to fully enjoy your stay in the mountains.

It is difficult to predict how long this weather situation will last in the Alps. Meteorologists point out that in recent years it has become increasingly difficult to forecast weather conditions, especially in transition periods between seasons. Therefore, tourists planning trips to the mountains should follow current forecasts and adapt their plans to the prevailing conditions.

Regardless of whether someone is planning ski madness or spring trips, it is worth remembering that the end of April may still bring a lot of weather surprises in the Alps this year. It is best to be prepared for various scenarios and enjoy what you find there.
