When we talk about outer space, we usually think about the beauty of twinkling stars or majestic galaxies. However, space also brings phenomena that make us afraid, one of them being asteroids approaching the Earth. NASA's recent announcement on this topic has caused a lot of confusion among experts.
The first of these uninvited guests, the size of a house, will decide to visit our area on September 6, flying within 5.11 million kilometers of Earth. You might think this is a safe distance, but it's only the beginning of the cosmic spectacle.
On September 8, two more objects will fall into our planetary neighborhood - one the size of an airplane, the other a bus. They will fly at a distance of 4.08 and 5.72 million kilometers from Earth. Compared to the previous object, these distances seem much more disturbing.
On September 10, the situation became even more tense. Two asteroids, both the size of an airplane, will approach us at a distance of 1.52 and 2.66 million kilometers. Such closeness is rare and raises legitimate concerns among experts.
These weren't the only asteroids to cause a stir this year. On August 9, NASA warned of another asteroid that passed by Earth on August 23, at a distance of about 6 million kilometers.
Of course, astronomers and experts from around the world are working to monitor space for potential threats. However, it is important that the global community is aware of these threats and recognizes the need to invest in research and technologies that will allow us to avoid potential collisions in the future.
Even though space is full of beauty and mystery, we must remember that it also carries real threats. Modern science gives us the tools to monitor and respond to these threats, but continued vigilance and international cooperation are key.
