The kidnapping of Herbert Schirmer. UFO puzzle from the 70s

A cold December evening in 1967 turned out to be very special for police officer Herbert Schirmer. The man was then abducted by aliens and, as he claims, even had a conversation with them. It all started with a report from one of the farms where the strange behavior of cattle was noticed.

At around 2:30 a.m., Herb Schirmer, then 22, was driving a police car toward Highway 63 in Nebraska. Suddenly his eyes saw strange red lights hovering above the ground to his right. Schirmer initially thought it was just a truck, but lost all doubt when he saw a bright flying saucer with a metal casing.

Here is what he later wrote in his report:

"At 2:30 a.m. on December 3, 1967, I saw a UFO at the intersection of (U.S. Highway) 6 and (Nebraska Highway) 63. Believe it or not."

He remembered that it was an oval flying object, 6 meters wide and 4 meters high. He also said that when the UFO approached him, it rose another 3 meters above the ground and then disappeared into the sky. The officer thought his encounter with the alien ship was over, but as soon as he returned to the police station around 3am, he realized he had been unconscious for nearly 20 minutes.

The time between the disappearance of the spaceship and his return to command simply disappeared from his memory! The man was also unable to sleep because of a severe headache. In addition, he found an enigmatic red scar under his left ear. It wasn't until a few months later, in July 1968, that a psychologist, Dr. Leo Sprinkle of the University of Wyoming, conducted an experiment using hypnosis and was able to partially recover the policeman's memories.

Schirmer recalled that his car's engine stalled and the radio went off. He saw a white and indistinct human figure emerge from the spaceship and approach his cruiser. According to him, the alien creature poked him with some device, saying, "Are you the keeper of this city?" Schirmer replied, "Yes, sir," and the stranger asked him to come with him.

The alien guided Schirmer to the spaceship. Inside it was full of wires, light bulbs, and various devices. While on the ship, the policeman met several short aliens. These aliens told him that the aliens have many bases all over the United States. These beings came from a nearby galaxy and use the Earth as a power source for their vehicles. Their goal is supposedly to stop humanity from destroying our planet.

The research committee did not receive these revelations with particular enthusiasm. Schirmer's report was dismissed as pure delusion and hallucination. It is difficult to assess whether the diagnosis was made too hastily, or whether it was determined by some other "unknown" facts. The Shirmer case is one of the many unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.
