Scientists predict the onset of extreme heat in the next two years

According to British climatologists, the next two years will be the warmest on record. The cause of the approaching heat is well known to scientists - the El Niño phenomenon - this and its reciprocal La Niña are anomalous fluctuations in temperature at the ocean's surface and at the same time remain the main driving forces of the Earth's climate.

When La Niña "turns on", the water in the equatorial zones of the ocean cools down, the time of El Niño comes - the water warms up. With all the ensuing consequences for the planet's climate, which largely depends on the ocean.

The last time "El Nino" reigned was in 2016 and it still remains the hottest year on record for meteorological observations. The "La Nina" that replaced it worked several years in a row, and now it's time to change the oscillation. El Niño is likely to occur in the second half of the year - between August and October. The natural phenomenon will gradually "fire", leading to an unprecedentedly warm future winter and a record hot summer in 2024.

As for the direct impact of El Niño on climate, countries closer to the equatorial zone feel it most strongly, but in Europe the effect is not as pronounced. El Niño is able to change the dynamics of the atmosphere, trigger multiple long-term anticyclones that lock up in a specific area.

El Niño is an oceanic phenomenon that has serious consequences for the climate around the world. It can cause a dry season in parts of the world, which can lead to droughts and forest fires, as well as a lack of drinking water for people and animals. In other parts of the world, it can cause floods and typhoons. Climate change caused by El Niño can also affect crops, which can lead to food shortages and higher food prices. As a consequence, El Niño can have serious social, economic and humanitarian consequences.
