Treasures were discovered near the Bahamas from a ship that sank more than three centuries ago

A group of Bahamian and American marine archaeologists and divers found several luxury items 70 kilometers north of the Bahamas coast, aboard a Spanish galleon that sank in the area in the 17th century. The British The Guardian informed about the find.

The wreckage of the ship "Nuestra Señora da las Maravillas" was known before, and several expeditions were sent to it. However, since 1656, when the galleon struck the reef due to a navigational error and sank, storms wiped out most of them. Some parts of the ship were covered with a thick layer of sand.

The finds include jeweled pendants and gold chains intended for wealthy aristocrats. In particular, items made of emeralds, possibly mined in Colombia, were found. The expedition that discovered the treasures collected data on the condition of the reefs, the geology of the seabed, and the degree of plastic pollution.

The government of the Bahamas Community has mandated archaeologists to investigate the luxury items in detail and intends to exhibit the finds at a new museum that opens on August 8. Under national law, everything in territorial waters is his property.
