Two independent American researchers believe they have found an explanation for the strange phenomenon - the fish rain - that Texas has experienced. It was decided to find out what made the fish fall from the sky at the end of last year in the small Texas town of Texarkana. Many city residents in East Texas were shocked in late December last year when they found fish (later identified as herring) scattered around streets, homes, and cars after a storm. This is not the first time that fish have been reported falling from the sky.
Some experts try to explain these phenomena by saying that water tornados catch fish or other marine organisms and carry them over long distances. However, meteorologists from the National Weather Service reported that no relevant weather events were observed near Texarkana at the time. Now Sharon Hill, a Pennsylvania geologist and freelance explorer, and Paul Cropper, an Australian writer, have shared their findings on what else might have triggered the phenomenon.
They argue that the most likely fault is a flock of birds that were returning previously eaten tibes at the same time. Indeed, residents say they saw the cormorants around the same time the fish fell from the sky. In addition, there were interviews with officials at Texarkana Regional Airport who mentioned that cormorants frequently fly near this facility.
"They usually arrive in the morning," said Paul Merlich, chief executive of the regional airport. "They move between two different lakes in this region, and sometimes hundreds of them appear at the same time."
Scientists say that before coming up with a new remarkable explanation, they examined all other possible options, and only paranormal explanations remained.
